Will Your Franchisors Marketing Plans Work In Your Market?
A franchisee depends on the franchisor for many things. One of the most crucial is the marketing plan. Marketing is a vital part of any business, so, it’s natural for the franchisees to be a little apprehensive about following someone else in this matter. That is why when you are evaluating a franchise concept before starting a franchise; note the marketing program of the franchisor as well.
Any top franchise will generally have a marketing team to oversee that part of the business. It can also have one or two franchisee representatives to put forward the viewpoints of the franchisees. The company may have two kinds of marketing program; one aimed at the customers and one to promote the franchise business for sale offers. The franchisee is generally concerned with the first, if he is not an area developer or a master franchisee. So, the first thing that you have to evaluate is what kind of response you want your ads to generate. Do you want more people to come to your store or do you want prospective candidates looking forward to buy a franchise?
The next thing to evaluate is how relevant the ads are to your location. For that, you can be the best judge. How you came to know about the franchise concept goes a long way in establishing whether your business will woo the local population. Did you become interested because you saw other locations thriving successfully? Or, is it because you visited one location and thought it could do well in your market? Or, did you come to the concept through your research for a perfect franchise? If the brand-name is already there, then the future marketing strategies will also be successful in getting people to your store. If it’s a new business, observe how the marketing strategy of the franchisor has worked for franchisees in established markets. You can talk to them to know about that. If it worked for them, then it will work for you as well!
Lastly, ask the franchisor and the present franchisees whether you can make inputs into the local marketing strategy. Best franchisees in the business normally give that much independence to their franchisees. You can note whether you can sponsor local events with money from the common advertising funds (that all franchisees pay annually). Also, make sure you know all these before you sign the franchise agreement; so that you are not left with a marketing program that doesn’t take your concerns into account!
