What Happens at the Interview?
A franchisor has looked through your application and has invited you to chat more. You’re nervous. Though it may make you feel uncomfortable, a franchisor’s investigation of you indicates that the company warrants only qualified individuals. Clearly, they are interested in you and want to investigate further. So do not stress. Such a company will be interested in establishing and maintaining a sound, mutually profitable relationship with you - not in taking your money and running. Those characteristics should make you feel a lot less uneasy.
The majority of franchise systems will do a thorough background check of a potential franchisee. They will take on a typical screening process analysing a potential franchisee’s resources, experience and character. in the interview, they will assess thoroughly and analyze whether or not you are right for their franchise opportunity.
Some franchisors will ask questions about your educational history and previous employment. Often you are asked to supply names of credit references and personal references. Most franchisors like to see some sort of business experience and skills in applicants.
Many franchisors also ask questions to determine your motivation to buy a franchise and to find out more about your personal characteristics. You may expect questions such as:
Why are you interested in becoming associated with us?
Why do you think you would be successful in our franchise?
What are your goals for the next 3 years?
They want to make sure that you have the same dedication and passion they too have for their franchise business.
You can expect additional questions of this kind and may even be given a type of personality quiz to see if you have the right temperament to run the franchise successfully.
Yet, it is important to remember that when you visit the franchisor’s headquarters you are not the only one being assessed. This is your chance to thoroughly assess the franchise and ascertain whether or not the franchise is right for you. This is your chance to evaluate the franchise management, both in style and in substance.
