By now you should have determined how much you have to invest in your franchise opportunity. Look at your bank accounts and other liquid assets and ascertain what they are worth.

Why not also have discussions with your family and friends and determine whether they too wish to invest with you in your business. Then you need to contact your franchisor.

Many franchisors have internal programs that assist their franchisees into business. Most franchisors have already established a rapport with lenders and other financing companies and are willing to provide funding for qualified individuals.

The biggest mistake one can make is failing to anticipate the cost of attaining and maintaining a business. Thankfully however, franchisors help you avoid this common error. Franchisors are required to provide you with a disclosure document which outlines the details of your investment.

Gaining an understanding of your capital is extremely important. Make sure of how much money you really need and be realistic.

Now it is time to visit your local banker. Make sure that you have all the necessary information with you that will enable the bank to make a decision. This is where a good rapport with your banker comes in handy. If they cannot be of any help, search for banks who are experienced in lending to small businesses. Compare banks and interest rates and find one suitable for you. Make sure that your cash flow can make those payments.

It is important that you have as little debt as possible in case your business does not take off as expected. Most importantly, make sure you do not risk your and your family’s future.
