Baked not Fried
Yes, it seems the trend these days is baked goods and not fried! According to a report,
the bakery products sector is the clear winner of the US fast food market.
Many bakery products fast food franchises have experienced phenomenal growth and popularity. These chains have experienced an achievement in units, transactions and value sales that topped all other fast food chains. Bakery products fast food witnessed value growth of nearly 5% from 2003-2004, whereas the burger and chicken fast food sectors showed only 1.6% and 2.8% value growth, respectively. The high growth achieved by bakery fast food is remarkable!
So what is causing this growth? Let’s look at a few reasons. Firstly, time is a valuable but rare resource. No one seems to have time anymore! People work all day long and just do not have the time or energy to still prepare dinner when they get home. Therefore, getting dinner quickly and efficiently from fast food franchises is the preferred method. The entire fast food industry, including the bakery sector, has benefited from the increasingly fast-paced nature of US consumer lifestyles. Yet, there is an increasing awareness of the dangers of continuously eating fast foods. Research has shown that many fast foods are bad for your health and contain high levels of fat. That brings us to the second reason. The bakery sector witnessed growth due to the growing health consciousness of US consumers and the bakery sector has realised the power of low fat products. This has seen consumers choosing healthier options, such as fresh sandwiches, soups and salads, instead of the traditional option of burgers and fries.
Fresh bakery franchises are becoming more and more popular due to the provision of fast and low-fat fresh products.
The most compelling reason for the success of bakery fast food is their ability to easily open new outlets. Many bakery franchises often require little or no cooking apparatus, which means they can open a restaurant in smaller locations that are not necessarily suitable for a large burger restaurant.
Our advice to you as a potential franchisee? Research trends and be aware of people’s ever-changing preferences. Assess what people are looking for and what they desire and choose a franchise that will fulfil those needs. As people’s awareness grows, be prepared to grow your business.
